St Katherine's Church is the oldest church in Merstham, this Anglican church dates back to the 1200's and stands on the London to Brighton road a little north of the village on a small hill. Most of the church is made of local Merstham Stone from local quarries and then covered in local flint. Some of the modern restoration work has used Bath stone.
Inside St Katherine's, the nave is 13m long, and the aisles are a little longer. The font is from the 12C, made of Purbeck marble. An earlier church stood on this site and is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The churchyard extends around the church and down the hill. It contains a number of both old and new grave stones. The main entrance to the yard is through a lych gate made from the remains of Merstham post mill which used to stand in nearby Rockshaw Road. This was moved during the construction of the 'Quarry' railway line.
