Castala - FURTHER INFORMATION
Castala - Almeria visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Castala' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Andalucia.
This panorama shows the recreational area of Castala, a small settlement near Almeria in Andalucia, southern Spain. As can be seen, this part of Spain is hilly and mountainous, part of the Sierra de Gádor. Castala lies on a small plateau at an altitude of 700m and behind it the mountains rise to a height of 2000m, with Puntal de la Higuera reaching 2124m and Punta del Sabinar reaching 2236m.
The area around Castala is not heavily developed for tourism, the main attractions being those offered by the mountains with cycling, walking and climbing being popular. Nearby is the town of Berja, which was known to the Romans as 'Vergis' or 'Vergium' and may have Phoenician or Iberian origins. It contains various Roman ruins, including an amphitheatre and an aqueduct, and a villa decorated with mosaics in a style similar to those found in Pompeii and Herculaneum.
