Panorama taken from the dam wall overlooking the Upper Linacre Reservoir near Chesterfield in Derbyshire. This is the highest of three reservoirs which descend down a valley on the east side of the Peak District. The oldest of the three is the Lower Linacre Reservoir, built in 1854. The upper reservoir was built next in 1864 and the Middle Linacre Reservior was built in 1911. Combined the three reservoirs cover 5.4 km² and have capacity of about 572,000m³, providing water for much of the surrounding area. The area is also popular for walking and hiking and the reserviors have become important wildlife preserves.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
The Linacre Reservoirs are about 4 miles east of Chesterfield, taking Old Road off the A619 to Old Brampton. The car park is at the end of North Lane.
