Frankston with a population of about 35,000 is located on the Mornington Peninsula about 50 kilometres south east of Melbourne.

The area was used by Kulin Aborigines for thousands of years before the arrival of Europeans. Frankston started as a small fishing village with tents and humpies.
After the railway arrived in Frankston in 1882 the village started to develop into a tourist destination.
In 1966 Frankston was declared a city and has established itself as tourism destination due to its location on the Mornington Peninsula and its sandy beaches
Since 2008 Frankston hosts over the summer months a Sand Sculpting Event at the waterfront where artists from all over the world form many tons of sand over a 3 week period into large sculptures.
