Winchester College is a private boy's school in Winchester. The official name of the college is 'Collegium Sanctae Mariae prope Wintoniam' (St Mary's College near Winchester, but it is often referred to as 'Win: Coll:'. The school has occupied the same grounds for over 600 years, and it is the oldest public school in England. Winchester College was founded in 1382 by William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester and the first the first seventy poor scholars joined the school in 1394.
