Inchconnachan - FURTHER INFORMATION
Inchconnachan - Loch Lomond visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Inchconnachan' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Argyll.
Inchconnachan is an island in the middle of Loch Lomond in Scotland. The island is about 3/4 mile long with numerous secluded bays. These are popular during the summer months when yachts and boats can often be found at anchor here. The island is also known as 'Colquhoun Island' after the clan that owns it. The narrow strait (called the 'Narrows') between Inchtavannach and Inchconnachan is said to be one of the most beautiful places on the loch, and a must for any day visitor.
Near to the Narrows is a wooden bungalow that was built in the 1920's. Fiona Bryde Colquhoun (Lady Arran Colquhoun) lived here in the 1970's and released a small number of wallabies on the island. In August 1980 she became the fastest woman on water, reaching 102mph on Lake Windermere in a power boat. The wallabies she released are now wild, making Inchconnachan a bit of a tourist attraction as one of the few places where wallabies can be seen wild outside of Australia (picture of Inchconnachan Wallaby). There have recently been reports of wallabies on the mainland around Luss on the western side of Loch Lomond. The island is also home to capercaillie, a large European woodland grouse with black feathers.
