Apache Junction lies at the junction of the Apache Trail and U.S. Highway 60 on the eastern edge of the Valley of the Sun Greater Phoenix area Arizona. It is 35 miles east of Phoenix on the edge of the Superstition Wilderness Area, which contains the Superstition Mountains. The mountains are popular with holiday makers and local attractions include Fish Creek Canyon and Saguaro Lake, both on the Apache Trail, and Goldfield Ghost Town and Mine.
The population of Apache junction almost doubles during the holiday season, swelling from about 40,000 to 70,000 as thousands of visitors come to explore the surrounding regions. Apache Junction is always a favorite with visitors which heads out from Apache Junction to Canyon Lake and the old stagecoach stop at Tortilla Flats. It then continues on a dirt road to Apache Lake and to Roosevelt Lake.
Many of the lakes within the Superstition Mountains allow water sports, boating, water skiing and fishing. Also nearby is Sonoran Desert, known for the Saguaro Cactus that grow on the slopes of Superstition Mountain and form a backdrop to the town. It is famous for glorious sunsets, stunning blue skies and dramatic electrical storms.
For visitors there are over 50 RV parks, and numerous hotels and motels to cater for visitors.
