Goleta lies just west of Santa Babara and north of Los Angeles in California. It is a coastal city, incorporated in 2002 and home to the University of California, Santa Barbara campus. Local attractions in and around Goleta include Los Carneros County Park which contains Stow House, the oldest house in Goleta Valley, the Goleta History Museum (Sexton House) and Lake Los Carneros. Within Goleta are also the South Coast Railroad Museum and Goleta-Santa Barbara Air Museum. Near to Los Carneros is Stowe Grove where visitors can see giant redwood trees.
On the coast are Goleta Beach Park and Pier and the Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve, one of the best remaining examples of a coastal-strand environment in Southern California and location of an annual gray whale count. Inland there are 19 peaks within the Goleta Mountains, popular for walking and climbing. Around Goleta area a number of 18 hole golf courses, both public and private, with popular ones including the Sandpiper Golf Course, Ocean Meadows Golf Course and Glen Annie Golf Club.
Before the arrival of the Europeans, Goleta was inhabited by the Chumash people. For part of the 19th and 20th centuries the area around Goleta was important for growing lemons. Oil and gas at has been extracted from the Ellwood Oil Field. At that time residents of Goleta Valley supported the construction of Cachuma Lake, which provided water to the town and prompted a construction boom. In turn, this lead to the influx of aerospace industries creating a high tech industry base. The arrival of the University of California, Santa Barbara further established the high tech reputation of the area, and now property is in great demand as Goleta is within easy commuting distance of Santa Barbara itself. However, the city remains fairly quiet and does not attract the number of tourists and visitors as it's neighbour. There are many websites about buying and selling property in Goleta.

Road: Goleta is on Highway 101, 9 miles west of Santa Barbara, about 120 miles from Long Beach and Los Angeles.
