River Danube

River Danube

Panorama looking at Parliament House (Országház) in Budapest from the Buda side of the River Danube. This panoramic image was taken close to Batthyany ter on the banks of the Danube.

Upriver from here you can see Margit hid (Margaret Bridge) and Margaret Island. The next bridge downriver is the Chain Bridge (Széchenyi lánchíd). Behind the Chain Bridge rises Gellert Hill (Gellérthegy), and you can just make out the Liberty Statue (Szabadság Szobor) on the top next to the Budapest Citadel.

Moving nearer to Batthyány tér on the next hill is the Castle District (Várhegy), and the building visible is Buda Castle. The Castle District also has Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion.

The two towers on Batthyány tér belong to S. Anne Church (Szent Anna Templom), reputed to be the finest Baroque church in Budapest. The other prominent spire belongs to the Reformed Church (Reformatus templom) in Szilagyi Dezso ter.
