Brighton Marina is to the eastern end of Brighton Beach in Brighton and, with 1600 berths, is the largest marina in England. The marina is about 1.5 miles east of Brighton Pier, and it is a pleasant walk along the beach and promenade between the two. The beach is a pebble beach, very popular with the British public in the summer time when the entire beach is almost covered from end to end with towels. Many people flock here from London, as a direct train takes about an hour.
Along the back of the beach here runs the Volks Electric Railway (VER), the oldest electric railway in the world. The train runs regularly during the daytime from Black Rock station near to Brighton Marina along the seafront to the Aquarium terminus not far from Brighton's Palace Pier. It was built in 1883.
Brighton Beach has, as a name, been adopted in various places settled by the English, including the Brighton Beach community on Coney Island in Brooklyn, a Brighton Beach in Melbourne, Australia and on in South Georgia in the USA.
