Built on the site of the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (ERI), Quartermile is one of the largest urban regeneration projects in Scotland. Occupying the 19 acre site are state of the art offices, shops, restaurants and housing, the new development establishes a new community in the heart of the city. A third of the site is green space and the site cost some £350M to develop.As the name suggests, Quatermile is a quarter of a mile across. It is also a quarter of a mile from some of the top landmarks and attractions in Edinburgh; a quarter mile from edinburgh castle and a quarter mile from the royal mile. Some of the housing at Quartermile occupies converted Victorian medical blocks. These have been tastefully converted into luxury accommodation, with high ceilings and period windows and fully equipped to high standards. Many of the apartments offer beautiful views over The Meadows. Also within Quartermile are several new apartment buildings, with full width glass windows, open living spaces and views across The Meadows to Edinburgh Castle and Salisbury Crags. Those living, working and staying in Quartermile will have easy access to many of the top attractions in Edinburgh with the National Museum of Scotland, St Giles Cathedral, 3d Loch Ness Experience, Gladstone's Land, Writers Museum, Camera Obscura, Scotch Whiskey Heritage Centre and Edinburgh University Collection of Historic Musical Instruments all under half a mile from the development.
