The Bowl Barrow shown in this picture lies on top of a hill a short distance northeast of Moyles Court School, above the Moyles Court Sandpit and near to a stream and ford in the New Forest in Hampshire.
The bowl barrow is a Scheduled Ancient Monument dating from 2200 BC-801 BC. It measures 17m in diameter and 90cm high and has been heavily damaged. Most people do not recognize the barrow, but many visit it at the top of the spur above the sandpit for the excellent views over the Avon Valley and Ibsley lakes, which are filled gravel pits. The barrow lies on Rockford Common, owned by the National Trust.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Take the A338 (Salisbury Rad) north from Ringwood heading for Salisbury. About 1.5 miles down the road turn right into Ellingham Drove and continue for about a mile to the Ford. From Bournemouth (and Poole) take the A338 to Ringwood and continue as above. Parking available on the south side of the Sandpit.
