Christmas Hills is a small town with a population of approx 500 only, 35 kilometres north east from Melbourne, 152 metres above sea level.

The town was established in 1884 and owes its name David Christmas, who became lost in 1842 and found after days of wandering at a rise which was named to him.

In 1856 the town experienced a short gold rush, gold mining continued until 1908.
