View from the Hajji Alija Mosque at Počitelj - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
This is a view from the Hajji Alija Mosque at Počitelj, an early 16th century ruined castle village built directly into a cliff face.
This small village just south of Mostar, was extensively bombed by the Serbians during the 1993 War, and works of Islamic art and architecture, including this Mosque built in 1562, were destroyed. The Mosque and its minaret were later re-constructed and some of the original remains can be seen in this photograph, carefully preserved in the corner to the left of the entrance.
