Kilmarie is a small hamlet on the western side of Loch Slapin between Torrin and Elgol on Skye. Nearby are the hamlets of Strathaird and Kirkibost. Kilmarie graveyard contains many tombstones from highland clans, in particular Clan MacKinnon. Ian Anderson, a former member of Jethro Tull, lived in Kilmarie House nearby.
Nearby overlooking the shores of Loch Slapin are the ruins of Dun Ringill. In the hills behind Kilmarie is stone circle known as Na Clachan Bhreige (the false stones). It lies next to a lake formed by a dam in very boggy area next to a stream. A little north of the hamlet, at Kirkibost, is a sword maker and Celtic Jewelry maker. A little further north is the trailhead for the trail that follows Allt na Dunachie burn to the corrie of Coire Uaigneich and then on up to the top of Blà Bheinn (Blue Mountain), some 928m high.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Take the B8083 south from Broadford. Kilmarie is about 11 miles from Broadford, 5.5 miles from Torrin and 3 miles from Elgol.
