The River Ness ('Abhainn Nis' in Scottish Gaelic) flows through Scotland from Dochgarroch weir at Loch Ness to the Moray Firth through Inverness. It forms a natural boundary between the Scottish Highlands and the Lowlands following the northern end of the Great Glen fault line.

Various companies offer boat trips from Inverness, including Inverness Dolphin Cruise and Loch Ness Cruises, Jacobite Cruises and Highland Voyages. The Loch Ness Express runs daily services down the entire length of Loch Ness from Inverness allowing a hop-on, hop-off service at at Foyers, Inverfarigaig and Urquhart Castle.
