Point Cook Homestead built in 1857 is 27 kilometres south-west of Melbourne and 9 kilometres east of Werribee. The homestead was home to the Chirnside Family prior to construction of the Werribee Park Mansion. Today the homestead is part of Point Cook Coastal Park with panoramic views over Port Phillip Bay.
The area was named after John M Cooke, mate of HMV Rattlesnake used to chart part of Port Phillip Bay in 1836. The e has been dropped from the place name by common usage. Between 1852 and 1920 the area was owned by the Chirnside brothers.
