The People's Story is a free museum on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Occupying the former historical Canongate Tolbooth building, a former tax collecting house and prison. Today visitors can explore different aspects of life of the people of Edinburgh over the centuries. Here visitors can discover medieval Edinburgh, trade, punishment and life in the city. Other exhibits talk about how the people of Edinburgh coped during times of war, changing working environments and found leisure.
The People's Story is run by Edinburgh Council, entrance is free. It is wheelchair accessible and has Induction loop hearing systems, facilities for visually impaired and nappy changing facilities. Nearby are the Museum of Edinburgh and Canongate Kirk.

Bus: Various to North Bridge and South Bridge, 35 down Canongate from South Bridge.
Walk: The museum stands on Cannongate, opposite the Museum of Edinburgh and next to Canongate Kirk.
