St Cuthbert Church - Further Information

St Cuthbert's church is a Church of Scotland Presbyterian church in Edinburgh. The present building dates from 1892-94, but traces of at least 6 earlier buildings have been found on the site. The interior of the church has a basilica layout with an apse and rounded vault.

The stained glass windows depict Old Testament scenes and date between 1893 and 1912. In the apse is a version of Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper from Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. It was modified and cut into three pieces to fit round the curve of the apse. Images of the four evangelists decorate the ceiling of the chancel. The church also houses Tiffany stained glass, which is very rare in the UK.

The church stands in a graveyard at the western end of Princess Street Gardens, next to St John's Church. Burials have been recorded on the site since 1595 and ceased in 1875. The graveyard is maintained by Edinburgh District Council.
