The viewpoint shown in this picture is on the castle wall next to the Argyle Battery at Edinburgh Castle. From here there are dramatic views north over Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth.
The wall continues round to Argyle Tower and from this vantage point you can see the Castle Portcullis and Long Stairs which leads to the Forewall Battery in the Upper Ward of the castle. Beyond the Argyle Battery is the One o'Clock Gun.
Below the castle is Princes Street Gardens and the northern part of Edinburgh. Off to the east next to the castle is a tall spire, and beyond this the ridge of Salisbury Craggs and Arthurs Seat. To the left of these is Carlton Hill.
