St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in Edinburgh is a Victorian Gothic building designed by Sir Gilbert Scott. The church was consecrated in 1879 and contains several notable features, artifacts and works of art that make it a visitor attraction. Another panorama shows the choir area and high altar of the church.
Among the highlights is the Lorimer Rood cross which hangs above the nave. Designed by Sir Robert Lorimer as part of the War Memorial it shows the suffering Jesus surrounded by the four gospel writers. In 2002 the church received a Paolozzi Window, designed by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi on the theme of the Ascension. The church organ is reputedly one of the best in Scotland, designed by 'Father' Willis in 1879. The rederos around the High Altar were designed by John Oldrid Scott. In the north aisle hangs 'The Presence', a painting by Alfred Borthwick dating from 1910.
This St Mary's Cathedral is the Episcopal cathedral church, and should not be confused with the Catholic cathedral church of the same name, which stands on York Place in Edinburgh.
