The congregation at St. Paul's & St. George's was established over 300 years ago in 1708 with Robert Blair as the first minister. The church at that time met on Castle Hill, just below Edinburgh Castle, and moved around several times to accommodate changes in circumstances before establishing itself on the current site. The current building dates from 1818 and underwent a 2 year refurbishment programme between 2006 and 2008.
