Lymington Harbour occupies a 2 mile long estuary of the Lymington River as it empties into the Solent at Lymington in Hampshire on the south coast of England. Lymington in the past was important for salt production and, in Medieval times was involved in ship building and used as a naval base.
Today, Lymington Harbour is heavily used for leisure yachting and sailing. The harbour contains the Lymington Berthon Marina and Lymington Yacht Haven. There are also slipways at the Lymington Old Quay and Bath Road, and the harbour is home to the Lymington Town Sailing Club. This is a very popular departure point for sailing on the Solent and around the Isle of Wight. The Isle of Wight Ferry departs regularly from Lymington Pier Ferry Terminal on the far side of Lymington Harbour, next to Lymington Pier Rail Station.
For the land-bound visitors, Lymington Old Quay is lined with restaurants, shops and bars. Several cruises depart from here offering tourist trips around the Solent.
