St Mary's church is the Anglican parish church in Westerham. Westerham is an old town, mentioned as 'Oistreham' in the 1086 Doomsday Book. The church, which dates from the 1300's, has been modified several times of the following centuries.
Within the church are several notable features, including a memorial tablet and window to General Wolfe, and a hanging lamp in the St Katherine Chapel to Sir Winston Churchill.
At the base of the tower, which houses 8 bells, is a 14th Century wooden, spiral staircase which twists to the left. It is one of only two left-spiral staircases of this age in England. At the base of the tower hang three Royal Coats of Arms, among them the oldest known example of Edward VI's Royal Coat of Arms. The others are from George III and Queen Elizabeth II.
