Stirling Castle - Great Kitchen - FURTHER INFORMATION
Stirling Castle - Great Kitchen - Stirling visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Stirling Castle - Great Kitchen' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Stirlingshire.
The Great Kitchen was where all the food for the occupants of Stirling Castle was prepared. It occupied a basement in the Outer Close is thought that it was linked by a passage to the Great Hall.
The Great Kitchen has been laid out to show a banquet being prepared for James IV. An interpretative display and video explains the workings of the kitchen and how the chefs would have made use of different foods during different times of the year, relying mostly on local produce and some imported spices. As can be seen in this picture, the Great Kitchen would have been a cramped, busy and demanding place in which to work.
