Monte Calvo is part of the Serra da Freita (Freita Mountains) in northern Portugal. Some of the peaks reach above 1000m, it is part of the larger Maciço da Gralheira range which also includes the Serra da Arada and the Serra do Arestal.

The area around Monte Calvo has not been heavily developed, though there are some small hotels and campsites in the various towns and villages. The area offers good walking and hiking, horse riding and cycling. Among the attractions is the small Frecha da Mizarela near to the village of Mizarela.

Road: Monte Calvo (Cabacos) is some 20km south of Arouca, about 10km west of the nearest junction with the N224 road.
