Mawgan Porth lies on the north coast of Cornwall a little north of Newquay, between Watergate Bay and Porthcothan. Like many of the beaches in the area, Mawgan Porth beach is popular with surfers with lifeguards in the summer, and was listed among the top 20 beaches in the world by the Times in 2007. It is home to Kingsurf surf school.
The beach has a vast expanse of golden sand, backed by various shops and restaurants. Within the village are some pubs, hotels, guest houses offering bed and breakfast (B&B), and a caravan park. These get very busy in the high season. Among them is The Park at Mawgan Porth which offers various types of holiday accommodation.
Behind the village is the Vale of Lanherne, and the River Menalhyl flows down this vale into the bay and sea.
