Santa Gertrudis De Fruitera on Ibiza is well known for arts and crafts. Traditionally a farming community, Santa Gertrudis quickly adapted to the growing tourism industry in the 1960's but has managed to retain much of the historical, rural feel. Central to the town is the church of Santa Gertrudis, built in 1797.
The town has several dedicated art galleries and antique shops. Many of the bars and cafes within the town also sell local art. For serious collectors it is worth visiting the Casi Todo auction house.
Santa Gertrudis is a good base from which to explore the rest of Ibiza. The town has a couple of hotels as well as holiday apartments and villas. It is at an important cross-road on the island linking Ibiza Town in the south with Sant Miquel de Balansat in the north, and Sant Antoni de Portmany in the west with Sant Joan de Labritja in the east.
