Schilthorn Ski Run - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

Skiing panorama taken at the end of the Schilthorn ski run in the Jungrau mountains of Switzerland. The Schilthorn run is a black ski run with a long traverse at the bottom. You need to pick up quite some speed to complete the traverse without poling, like some of the skiers in this picture. This picture was taken near the end of that traverse on a clear afternoon and looks back up the valley to the top of the Schilthorn.

Schilthorn Ski Run - FURTHER INFORMATION

Schilthorn Ski Run - Jungfrau visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Schilthorn Ski Run' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Bernese Oberland.

The Schilthorn is the highest accessible peak in the Mürren-Schilthorn ski area, accessed by cable car from the Birg restaurant. The Schilthorn ski run is a black ski run that starts just under the famous Piz Gloria revolving restaurant at the top of the mountain. The first part of this run descends a very steep canyon before ending in a long traverse. Aside from the cable car, this is the only way down from the Schilthorn.

At the end of the traverse, the Schilthorn run joins the 'Entegal', a blue run that feeds the Entegal drag lift which takes skiiers back up to Birg. It also links to the Muttleren Chair which takes people to the top of Obere Hubel (2439m) and the Schilthornhütte.

More information about skiing in Murren can be found on this interactive Mürren Ski and Piste Map, which has resort information and more 360° panoramas taken around the area. During the summer months, this run is the last part of a walking route from Murren to the Piz Gloria.

The annual Inferno Downhill ski race passes this point. The race was started in 1928, starting near the top of the Schilthorn and finishing near to Hotel Schützen in Lauterbrunnen. Winners of the first race to about 1 hour 15 minutes to complet the course. Today winning times are around 15 minutes only. Several events are put on in the region in the run up to the Inferno Downhill.
