Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - Engetal Ski Run - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT
Skiing panorama taken near the end of the Engetal ski run. The picture was taken late in the afternoon, the top of the Schilthorn almost directly in front of the sun and much of the valley covered in shadow. You can see some skiers gathered around the bottom of the drag lift.

Engetal is one of the drag lifts and ski runs in the Mürren-Schilthorn ski area, part of the wider Jungfrau ski region in the Bernese Oberland Alps in Switzerland. This ski run starts near the Birg restaurant at a height of 2676m and descends some 267m to the bottom. The top part splits into a mogul piste and an easier flatter route before joining up again near the bottom.
Part way down a long traversing run, aptly named 'Traverse', feeds off along the ridge to Obere Hubel and the Schilthornhütte, a fantastic place to buy a drink, relax and take in the mountain views. Skiers can then continue to ski all the way back down the mountain passing Allmendhubel to Mürren from here or ski the red and black runs served by the Muttleren and Kandahar chairlifts.
More information about skiing in Murren can be found on this interactive Mürren Ski and Piste Map, which has resort information and more 360° panoramas taken around the area.
The annual Inferno Downhill ski race passes this point. The race was started in 1928, starting near the top of the Schilthorn and finishing near to Hotel Schützen in Lauterbrunnen. Winners of the first race to about 1 hour 15 minutes to complet the course. Today winning times are around 15 minutes only. Several events are put on in the region in the run up to the Inferno Downhill.
In the summer months the area is popular with walkers and this is part of a route that starts in Mürren and ends at the famous Piz Gloria revolving restaurant at the top of the mountain. The helipad next to the restaurant provides a panoramic viewpoint of the surrounding mountains visible, at times, all the way to Mont Blanc.
