Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - Ski Run 15 - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

Skiing panorama showing part of the Murren ski area in Switzerland. The picture was taken late in the afternoon skiing down from the top of Schilthorn back to Murren. It shows skiers at the junction between a red and black pistes (15 and 15b) with a chairlift on top of the ridge and a great view over the valley to the Eiger and Jungfrau mountains.

Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - Ski Run 15 - FURTHER INFORMATION

Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - Ski Run 15 - Jungfrau visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - Ski Run 15' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Bernese Oberland.

Red run Bietenhorn is within the Mürren-Schilthorn ski area, part of the wider Jungfrau ski region in the Bernese Oberland Alps in Switzerland. Numbered '15' on the piste maps, the ski run starts at the top of Obere Hubel (2439) near to the Schilthornhütte bar and descends some 245m to the bottom of the Kandahar Chair lift. Parallel to it is run 15b (FIS), one of the black ski runs in the area.

Near the bottom of run 15, black run 16 (Kanonenrohr-Mürren) continues down the mountains past Allmendhubel, the Maulerhubel chair and, eventually, Mürren. For those who are up for it, a fantastic way to end a day skiing is to start at the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant at the top of the Schilthorn (2970m). Enjoy a drink here taking in some of the most stunning mountain views in the whole of Europe and then set off on a black run down the mountain. The route descends down a steep canyon and then traverses under a ridge to Obere Hubel where it joins pistes 15 and 15b.

This route is taken by the annual 10 mile Inferno Downhill ski race, started in 1928, which starts near the top of Schilthorn and ends in Lauterbrunnen. Winning times of around 15 minutes can be expected, with mere mortals taking around 30 minutes. About 1,800 people take part each year.

In the summer months the area is popular with walkers and this is part of a route that starts in Mürren and ends at 4561,Piz Gloria. During the summer months Schilthornhütte has 25 beds for walkers set in a single dormitory. From here there are great views over the Jungfrau valley, taking in the peaks of the Eiger, Jungfaru and Monch mountains.
