Obere Hubel - Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - FURTHER INFORMATION
Obere Hubel - Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing - Jungfrau visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Obere Hubel - Mürren-Schilthorn Skiing' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Bernese Oberland.
Obere Hubel (2439m) is a small peak within the Mürren-Schilthorn ski area. Near the top is the Schilthornhütte which has a restaurant, bar and sleeping for up to 25 people in the summer months. In the winter it is used by skiers relaxing and enjoying the stunning views. Obere Hubel is served by two chairlifts, and linked to the Birg Mountain Restaurant and the Piz Gloria revolving restaurant (top of Schilthorn Mountain) by a long traversing run.
From Obere Hubel 4 pistes continue down the mountain. Red run 13 and a black (14) descend 204m to the bottom of the Muttleren chair with another red run (15) and black (15b) dropping 245m to the Kandahar chair. Near the bottom of run 15, black run 16 (Kanonenrohr-Mürren) continues down the mountains around Allmendhubel, the Maulerhubel chair and, eventually, Mürren. Thus it is possible to start at the Piz Gloria at the top of the Schilthorn (2970m) with the Schilthorn run (black) and ski all the way down to Mürren (1638m) in one go.
The Mürren-Schilthorn ski area is part of the wider Jungfrau ski region in the Bernese Oberland Alps in Switzerland. The annual 10 mile Inferno Downhill ski race, which began in 1928, starts at the top of Schilthorn and passes Obere Hubel on the way to the finish line in Lauterbrunnen (1486m). Winning times of around 15 minutes can be expected, with mere mortals taking around 30 minutes. About 1,800 people take part each year.
In the summer months the area is popular with walkers and this is part of a route that starts in Mürren and ends at 4561,Piz Gloria. From here there are great views over the Jungfrau valley, taking in the peaks of the Eiger, Jungfaru and Monch mountains.
