Numerous walking paths ascend into the hills behind Kyle of Lochalsh, some offer stunning views over Lochalsh to the Isle of Skye. The hills are covered in heather and moss, and quickly get very boggy after rain.
This picture shows one such view down the loch and over to Skye, with Sgurr na Coinnich (739m) and Beinn na Caillich (733m) clearly visible. To the west is the village of Kyleakin and beyond this is the famous Skye Bridge linking Skye to the mainland.
Kyle of Lochalsh contains a couple of hotels and several Bed and Breakfast places. It is an ideal base from which to explore both Skye and the Scottish Highlands. A popular place from which to watch the sun set over the Inner Sound is the Plock Viewpoint. Kyle of Lochalsh Harbour is the terminal station of the The Highland Railway Line from Inverness, one of the most picturesque railway lines in the UK and a popular tourist attraction as part of a day out.
