The city of Panvel lies south of Mumbai in India, a little east of Mumbai International Airport on the banks of the Kalundre River. It is known as the gateway to the Konkan Coast (Karavali Coast), full of beautiful beaches and coastal villages.
Attractions within the city include the Saibaba Temple near the railway station, Panchmukhi Shri Hanuman Temple, Shiv Temple near Krishna Hotle, and the Raigad Bazaar.

- Karnala Bird Sanctuary and Karnala Fort - the bird scanctuary is very popular for hiking and bird watching. Karnala Fort dates from around 1400.
- Elephanta Caves (Caves of Gharapuri) on Elephanta Island - man made temple caves from 9th to 13th century containing Shaivistic high reliefs in stone.
- Matheran Hill Fort - in a car-free trekking area east of Panvel
- Khandala - hill station on the top of the Bhor Ghat (valley) with a market and good hotels.
- Malshej Ghat - hiking and trekking nature reserve in the Western Ghats
- Ashtavinayaka Temples - Two of the eight Ashtavinayaka temples in india are nearby, Ballaleshwar Temple in Pali and Varadavinayak Temple in Mahad.
