Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park - Thurston Lava Tube

The Thurston Lava Tube (Nahuku) is one of the major attractions in Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park. This national park itself is very high on the tourist 'to do' list. Thurston Lava Tube on the Crater Rim Drive, the road that encircles Kilauea Crater.

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park contains many craters and lava flows. Kilauea volcano has been active for over 20 years, with frequent eruptions from the Pu'u 'O'o vent on the East Rift Zone. From here lava can flow down the PKK lava tube all the way to the sea. It is possible to drive down Chain of Craters Road until it meets the recent lava flows bury the road and then walk out over the lava.
