The Lauberhonr Worldcup Downhill Ski Run (Lauberhorn-Weltcup Abfahrt) is the longest downhill ski race on Earth. The Worldcup Starts near the top Lauberhorn in Switzerland and then descends 4.455 km (2.77 miles) finishing in Innerwengen. Winning times are around 2.5 minutes, with winning skiers often separated by 10ths of a second, and skiers reaching speeds of up to 150km/h (93 mph). Thousands of spectators gather at the top and bottom of the race to watch.
When not used for World Cup races, the run, number 45, is the most exhilarating black ski run in the Kleine Scheidegg-Männlichen ski area above Wengen in the Jungfrau region of Switzerland.
For those visiting the area, there are numerous hotels and chalets found around Kleine Scheidegg, Wengen, Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald, all within easy access of the slopes by lift or mountain train.
