The picture was taken opposite the Granary Restaurant and Priory Hotel next to the bridge at high tide in September 2009.River Frome - Further InformationThe River Frome flows about 30 miles from Evershot in the Dorset Downs and then flows east through Maiden Newton, Dorchester and past Wool to Wareham. Here the rive is tidal and flows through marshland to join the River Piddle at the Wareham Channel before flowing into Poole Harbour.The Frome forms a focal point of Wareham. Next to the bridge is the Quay, a reminder that in past times Wareham used to be an important harbour. Here there are a number of shops and the Granary Restaurant, public toilets and seating areas. It is not unusual to see small pleasure boats moored here. Nearby is the Priory Hotel and Lady St Mary Church and Hillview Cemetery. Just over the road is Wareham Tourist Information Office, with information on all the nearby attractions and accommodation. Downstream of the bridge, where this image was taken, there is free coarse fishing for those holding a National Rod License. This is a popular pass time when the tide is high.
