Entrance to the square itself is only allowed for those living or working in the surrounding buildings. It is surrounded by period architecture from the New Town era. The picture was taken opposite the Georgian House, one of the tourist attractions in the city.Charlotte Square - Further InformationCharlotte Square is one of the most famous and important squares in Edinburgh. The buildings here were designed by architect Robert Adam, and said to include some of his finest work. The north and south sides of Charlotte Square are about 100m long, and mirror eachother with the facades forming a palace-like presentation.Charlotte Square lies at the west end of George Street and compliments St. Andrews Square further east. In the middle of the square is a memorial to Prince Albert, and the square hosts the annual Edinburgh International Book Festival in August. Situated on Charlotte Square is the luxury Roxburghe Hotel, run by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts and one of the top Edinburgh hotels. On the northern side is The Georgian House, managed by National Trust for Scotland who have their headquarters on the southern side of the square. No.6 Charlotte Square, Bute House is the official residence of the First Minister of Scotland.
