This was the scene at the Bristol International Festival of Kites in September 2009. A continuous display of kites and air creations of all shapes and sizes was flown by designers and guests from around the world. Amazing shapes included giant octopus, fish, snakes, mermaids, butterflies, angels, and even a flying cow.

The Bristol Kite Festival is an annual event that takes place in Bristol. As the name suggests, this brings together an amazing collection of kites from all over the world, filling the air with a stunning array of colours, shapes and sizes. The festival draws tens of thousands of visitors, and often raises a lot of money for charity. In 2009 the Bristol Kite Festival supported Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The kite festival has a number of 'Arena' areas which are used for all sorts of special displays, competitions and events, drawing in kite hobbyists and manufacturers all over the earth, some with exotic, large or strangely shaped kites.
Do not be surprised if on visiting the Bristol Kite Festival you are greeted by flying mermaids, dragons, beetles or UFO's. A great weekend out for all the family.
