Hayle lies on the north coast of Cornwall, between between Carbis Bay and Gwithian Beach, near to St. Ives Bay. Earliest settlements in the area date from the Bronze Age, but Hayle as it is now developed during the Industrial Revolution in the 18th century. The term 'hayle' comes from the Cornish 'heyl' meaning 'estuary'.

Hayle is popular for the three miles of sandy beaches at The Towans, suitable for surfing. Also on the coast here is Godrevy Lighthouse. Within the town are a few small hotels, but scattered around the countryside are numerous holiday cottages and Bed and Breakfast places as well as the Beachside Holiday Park.

Behind the beaches are the Towans, large sand dunes full of wildlife and walking trails. Hayle Estuary, between Copperhouse and Lelant Saltings, are an important feeding ground for migratory birds each year who flock here in great numbers.

Hayle has plenty to offer visitors, both within the town itself and in the surrounding area:
  • fishing in the reservoirs near Hallan Kean Farm as well as countless opportunities for shoreline and sea fishing

  • Walking along the Coastal Path
  • Bird watching on Hayle estuary
  • St Elwyn Church
  • Beaches for swimming and surfing
Cycles can be hired here and there is a Tourist Information Centre near to the station. It is part of a World Heritage area that covers the historic mining landscape of Cornwall and West Devon.

Car: Hayle is 5 miles from St Ives (A3074), 6 miles from Penzance (A30 and B2201) and 10 miles from Redruth (A30 and B2201)
