Panorama showing the view over the harbour at Newlyn in Cornwall. It was high tide when this picture was taken, and the harbour was full of various fishing boats and pleasure boats.
Newlyn - FURTHER INFORMATION
Newlyn - Penzance visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Newlyn' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Cornwall.
Newlyn is a small fishing port on the south coast of western Cornwall, close to both Penzance and Mousehole. It has an active fishing fleet, one of the largest in England, and some of the restaurants serve great fish food.
In 1595 Newlyn was sacked by a Spanish boarding party which also attacked Penzance and Mousehole at the same time. Very little of old Newlyn remains as much of the village was demolished in the run up to WWII. The town has attracted a number of local artists and crafts people, and now contains various galleries, like the Newlyn Art Gallery, and shops selling their works.
There is a daily Fish Market, selling local catches early in the morning. On the August Bank Holiday Monday the Newlyn Fish Festival takes over the quays for the day.
