River Fal - FURTHER INFORMATION
River Fal - Truro visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'River Fal' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Cornwall.
The River Fal is an important river in Cornwall, flowing from the source on Gorss Moor to the English Channel at Falmouth. The lower reaches of the river are also fed by waters from Truro River and Tresillian River, which meet at Malpas. Much of the lower reaches are tidal.
Part way down the River Fal, about half way between Truro and Falmouth, is King Harry's Ferry, a short chain ferry which crosses the river between Trisellick near Feock and Philleigh. The ferry crossing enables drivers to avoid a 26mile round trip to bridges in Truro in order to get to the Roseland Peninsula. The ferry is managed by King Harry Steam Ferry Company Ltd, and the current ferry is capable of carrying about 34 cars.
In summer months a passenger ferry runs up the river from Falmouth to Truro. Nearby on the Feock side are the famous Tressilick Gardens, owned by the National Trust, and Carron Downs. On the Philleigh side is Tolverne Cottage, a smugglers hideout and the picturesque settlements of Roseland.
