Truro Cathedral is beautifully decorated inside, especially around the high altar. Built in the heart of Truro between 1880 and 1910 it is surrounded by narrow alleyways lined with shops. This is the only cathedral in Cornwall and the first cathedral to be built on a new site since the Salisbury Cathedral in 1220.

The cathedral is a major tourist attraction in Truro, drawing about 200,000 visitors each year. It is constructed of local Cornish granite, with the statues carved from Bath stone. The site was occupied by an earlier church around which the town had grown. Because of the closeness of the surrounding shops, Truro Cathedral is not built on a straight line, as can be seen looking back down the aisle in this image.
