Truro Cathedral is unusual for several reasons. The Gothic cathedral was built between 1880 and 1910 on the site of St Mary's church in Truro. The site was so confined that it was not possible to build the cathedral in a straight line. This can be seen when looking back down the length of the cathedral from the choir area. The cathedral is also one of only three cathedrals in England with 3 spires, and the first cathedral built on a new site since the construction of Salisbury Cathedral in 1220.

Today, Truro Cathedral is a major tourist attraction in Truro, drawing over 200,000 visitors each year. Throughout the year it hosts a number of special events, concerts and exhibitions. Inside are two organs, one built by Henry Walls in 1887 with four manuals and forty-five stops and another that occupies St Mary's Aisle, the only remaining part of the earlier church.
