Albufeira Old Town - FURTHER INFORMATION
Albufeira Old Town - Albufeira visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Albufeira Old Town' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Algarve.
Panorama showing one of the squares in the Old Town of Albufeira, one of the most popular beach resort towns on the Algarve coast in Portugal. Albufeira has been occupied by various different nations over the centuries, being known as 'Baltum ' in Roman times, and 'Al-Buhera' when occupied by the Moors, when it became in important trading port.
Albufeira even had it's own castle, but this was destroyed by an earthquake in 1755. Thankfully, most of the other old buildings in the Old Town survived this quake and many have been tastefully preserved and restored, adding to the attractions for tourists. Albufeira suffered decline on the departure of the Moors, and fortunes have only revived with the advent of tourism. Now the town attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year to the various beaches, and is full of various hotels, hostels, holiday apartments and villas. The town has a vibrant night life, focussed mostly around the bars, clubs and restaurants that line the 'Strip'.
