Padstow lies on the Camel River Estuary on the north coast of Cornwall. It is an historic fishing village and still has an active fishing fleet, as well as being popular with sailing yachts and leisure boats. The town is also popular with walkers in the summer, being on the South West Coast Path and surrounded by stunning coastline and countryside. There are numerous small hotels, holiday cottages and Bed and Breakfast places in and around the town.

For those walking the Southwest Coast Path there is a ferry that from St Saviours Point, just below the War Memorial, which crosses the Camel to Rock. This picture shows the view down the Camel River out to sea. On the south side is Stepper Point and on the north side you can see Pentire Point.

On the Padstow side, the Southwest Coast path continues south around the headland to Trevone. On the way it passes St Georges Well and Harbour Cove beach before encircling Stepper Point. On the northern side of the Camel River, the Southwest Coast Path continues north to Trebetherick and Polzeath. On the way it passes Brae Hill, on which there is a tumulus, Draymer Bay and Trebetherick Point. Some of the land is managed by the National Trust.

  • Surfing and sailing - provided through numerous businesses in the area.
  • Camel Trail - old railway line from Padstow to Bodmin and Bodmin Moore. Great for walking and cycling.
  • Quality restaurants, arts and craft shops and galleries.

TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE

Car: Padstow is about 8 miles from Wadebridge (A38 and A389). it is about 14 miles from both Newquay and Bodmin. Parking available near the Tourist Information Office.
