Exeter - PHOTOGRAPHER COMMENT

Once a busy industrial area, Exeter's Historic Quayside has now evolved into a leisure area with many craft workshops located in old historic cellars and bonded warehouses, seen here with the green doors. The ferry at this point crosses the River Exe to reach the galleries and shops around the canal basin opposite.

Exeter - FURTHER INFORMATION

Exeter - Exeter visitor guide showing a virtual tour of 'Exeter' linked to an interactive map with local and travel information. 360° panoramas from Devon.

Exeter is the county town of Devon and a popular tourist destination within England. The city has an important and ancient history with coins dating from 250BC showing that Exeter from very early times had strong trading links with the Mediterranean. Today, tourism plays a vital role in the economy. This map of Exeter shows various tourist attractions and places of interest in and around Exeter.

The city developed on a ridge of land overlooking the River Exe and it grew up surrounded by fertile flood plains and a fast flowing river. Sadly, many of the historic buildings within Exeter were destroyed by incendiary bombing during Baedeker Blitz of WWII. In spite of this damage, Exeter has a number of attractions that draw visitors.
