Yass is a small town in New South Wales with a population of about 13,000.
The town is 58km north of Canberra and 280km south-west of Sydney. Hamilton Hume discovered the Yass Plains in 1821. By the late 1820s a rough bush track joined Yass with Goulburn opening the area to settlers. By 1835 a small village had developed which has grown into a small agricultural town with fine historical buildings.
The area has the reputation as Fine Wool Capital of the World.
