Market Square in Dover - FURTHER INFORMATION

The Market Square lies towards the southern end of Dover, a short walk form the sea front. It is thought that an annual market took place here in the 12th century. An 11th century church stood here, but this fell into disrepair and in 1581 the congregation moved to a short walk away.
Today, Market Square is lined with various shops and cafes. The Dover Museum stands on the south-west corner and leading off to the north is Biggin Street, which still has a street market selling all kinds of food and other goods alongside the usual selection of high street shops.
Market Square also contains a globe fountain and has good views up Castle Street to Dover Castle.
