The southern viewpoint onCalton Hill gives a good view south over Edinburgh. From here both Salisbury Crags (165m) and Arthur's Seat (251m) in Holyrood Park are clearly visible. To the far south are Allermuir Hill (493M) and Caerketton Hill (450m) part of the Pentland Hills range on the border with Midlothian.
Further round to the west you can see Edinburgh Castle. On the hill itself are Nelson's Monument, shrouded in scaffolding at the time this picture was taken, and the National Monument.
TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND GETTING THERE
Walk: Footpaths lead up Carton Hill from Regent Road and Royal Terrace. Less than a mile east of Waverley Station and the Edinburgh Tourist Information Office.
Bus: Regent Road stop next to Jacob's Ladder.
